The 2025 Writers Guild AI Hackathon will happen on July 30 and 31. Join us in person at the Tel Aviv Wix Campus (E1). We’ll also have locations in Lithuania and Dublin (TBC). If you’re based at one of these sites, we highly recommend attending in person—it’s the best way to collaborate and get the full experience!

• The first day is a full day of work.

• The second day is a half day, focused on wrapping up details and presentations.

Absolutely! If you can’t make it in person, you’ll join your team on Zoom and collaborate just like we do every day. Teams can be made up of members from any location, and we encourage cross-site collaboration so you can make the most of our global community!

We understand that working across different time zones can be challenging, but you won’t be alone. Once teams are finalized a week before the hackathon, you’ll have time to connect, plan, and find the best way to work together. Each team can find its own rhythm—whether it’s dividing tasks, scheduling overlap hours, or setting up meetings that work for everyone. If it helps your creative process to team up with people in a similar time zone, that’s totally fine too.

AI is rapidly reshaping how we work and create. This hackathon is your chance to:

• Get hands-on experience with AI in a fun, collaborative environment

• Address real challenges in our daily work with innovative AI solutions

• Foster a culture of experimentation, creativity, impact, and teamwork

• Discover true needs and pain points, and explore how AI can help solve them

• Develop ideas and tools that make our work easier, smarter, and more efficient

The tracks are designed to inspire your projects and reflect areas in our guild where AI could make a real impact:

• AI for Translation

• AI for Workflows and Efficiency

• AI for Content Generation

• AI for Quality Control

You can submit either of the following within any track:

• Idea: No need for a finished product, focus will be on research, mockups, and a well-developed concept.

• Prototype: Create a working demo to showcase your idea’s potential.

Remember, this can evolve during the hackathon! If your idea grows into a prototype, or vice versa, that’s great.

• Each project can have up to 5 team members.

• You must list at least 1 team member (the project lead) on submission.

• You’ll have two weeks, until July 15th, to add team members (up to 4). If you don’t have a full team yet, that’s fine—submit your project anyway!

• You have 3 weeks, until July 22nd, to market your idea to colleagues and build a team. And projects will be visible to all guild members who can ask to join.

• Yes you can work solo, but we don’t recommend it.

We encourage teams to stick to the five-member maximum. If you have a special case, please reach out to Deb and we’ll figure it out together!

You’ll have access to legal, data science, and dev support throughout the Hackathon. Support will be provided in a help desk format and via dedicated Slack channels.

Devs and data science team members will not be assigned to specific teams. Instead, they’ll be available to answer questions and offer guidance as needed.

If you want to use tools or products that aren’t available in the model hub, that’s totally fine—just be sure to follow the simple legal guidelines we’ll share before the hackathon. As for paid tools, we’re still checking with Finance and will update you soon!

Project submissions: You can submit your project idea any time from now until July 15th. Submitting a project means proposing a topic or challenge you’d like a team to work on during the hackathon. You can submit a project on your own, with a few team members, or with a full team.

Any open spots on your project can be filled by people you invite, or by others who sign up to join your team.

Joining a team: If you’d prefer to join an existing project (rather than submit your own idea), you'll have a week to sign up to join a team until, from July 15th to July 22nd.

This gives everyone at least a week before the hackathon to meet teammates, brainstorm, and start planning together.

Absolutely! You can view all submitted projects in this document. Please note that you’ll be able to officially join a project starting July 15th. In the meantime, feel free to browse the projects and contact the project owner if you’d like more information.
